I started fishing when I was 4 years old — we all started early. We would camp every summer on the bartahatchie river in Mississippi fishing for channel and blue cats. As we grew older, Dad would take us on early morning fishing trips to the John C. Stennis lock and dam fishing for blue cats. We soon started catching big blue catfish and we were all hooked.
In earlier years, we would fish off the pier using our dads 15 foot rods, monofilament line and J hooks. We would fish for blue cats in the heavy current. Now that we can afford our own equipment, we have purchased pontoon boats, 10 and 11 foot catmaxx rods and use old school Daiwa 9000c reels. From experience in fishing structure and targeting big catfish, we switched to using braid line and circle hooks.
We have been fishing in the Mississippi Catfish Hunters tournament trail since 2006. Josh and I are partners and have been fortunate enough to win angler of the year in 2008, 2009, and 2010. In April 2010, Josh and I won the Cabelas King Kat Trail qualifier in Columbus, MS. We finished 7th in the Cabelas Classic, while Jerry Pounders Sr. and Brian Pounders finished 4th.
Josh and I became a pro team when we joined the Vicious Fishing tournament team and are very excited to have this opportunity.
